Facilities

With the B120 roof replacement well underway, I wanted to give some updates on the project.

Road closure is now estimated for Tuesday  8/12/25 (revised date):

There will be a scheduled crane lift on 8/12 to remove some mechanical equipment off of the 120 roof. This will impact the road leading towards the SPEAR infield and ultimately End Station A.  A communication is now posted on SLAC today about the impacted road closure. This is scheduled to take place in the morning and should only last a few hours.  We will do everything we can to keep one lane of traffic open until we need to close the whole road down for the lift.

Progress:

Most of the new roof on the lower roof section will be complete by this Friday 8/8/25.  Work will still need to happen around the perimeter of that roof section to install new gutters.  Areas will be cordoned off to keep people away from those work areas maintain a safe zone.  Please watch for and stay out of cordoned off areas.  We will try to leave walk areas as practical.

Work will be progressing to the upper middle roof section next week.  Several exhaust fans need to be turned off and jacked up to accommodate the new roof material, but air conditioning should still be functional.

Noise pollution in 120:

The roof replacement is producing a lot of noise pollution throughout 120, especially around the experimental floor. SSRL-Fix has placed hearing protection outside of their office (near the 120 Shipping/Receiving cage) and will restock as needed. Please plan on loud noises from the project starting on the far west side of the Building , working its way through Southeast corner of Building 120 near the trestle. Please reach out to me if alternate workspace locations are needed, outside of your B120 office/space.
