Experimental Station 12-1

Employs a flat side-deflecting, Rh-coated Si mirror and a liquid nitrogen-cooled double-crystal Si(111) monochromator with a 0.01% energy bandpass. The monochromator is also fitted with a multilayer with a ~1% energy bandpass and will potentially boost the x-ray flux by a factor of ~5 through a ~1 x 1 µm2 collimator. Kirkpatrick-Baez (KB) optical mirrors are used for 18:1 horizontal and 12:1 vertical beam focusing.  The vertical mirror polish will be ~100 nrad RMS, thus conservatively we expect a vertical beam focus of ~5 µm FWHM.

Data Acquisition and Analysis

The beam line control GUI Blu-ice is installed at all the macromolecular crystallography beam lines. Web-ice provides an interface for diffraction image viewing and automated autoindex and data collection strategy calculation.

Other supported software installed on servers accessible from all the beam lines include mosflm, HKL2000 and XDS. MAD/SAD scripts, developed at SSRL, are also available to facilitate on-line structure solution. The graphics package COOT is installed on the local beamline computers.
