Program Description
Time resolving electronic motion in inner atomic shells requires three essential ingredients: attosecond temporal resolution to resolve the ultrafast electron dynamics, photon energies in the upper end of the Extreme Ultraviolet (XUV) spectral region for accessing inner atomic shells, and a sufficient photon density facilitating measurable interactions involving several quanta of light. Here, I will report recent progress that has enabled the first observation of nonlinear interactions of attosecond pulse with inner shell electrons in xenon. The results obtained with a table-top high harmonic source demonstrate that all essential ingredients for attosecond XUV-pump XUV-probe studies with core electrons are now available.
