Program Description
One open question in basic science of self-assembled monolayers concerns their internal structure and its correlation with the underlying substrate. I will present results from surface x-ray scattering, comprising several novel structural motives originating in the competition between molecule-molecule and molecule-substrate interaction, as well as the atomic scale structure of the Si/native oxide interface.
Furthermore, I will discuss recent results of model studies of basic processes underlying the lithiation processes in battery materials. These include the atomic scale elucidation of the lithiation mechanism of crystalline silicon, and the tracking of the electrochemical reaction front in epitaxial thin films.
