Beam line 13-3 utilizes a spherical grating monochromator (SGM) on an elliptical polarized undulator (EPU) operating in the photon energy range from 230 eV to 1700 eV with full polarization control (linear vertical/horizontal and circular left/right) covering the C, O, F K-edges, 3d transition metal L-edges, and 4f rare-earth element M-edges.
The primary experimental station at BL13-3 is optimized for Resonant Soft X-ray Scattering (RSXS). In addition, X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS) and X-ray Magnetic Circular Dichroism (XMCD) via a permanent magnet with a limited field strength (<0.5 Tesla) can be performed using either fluorescence yield (FY) or total electron yield (TEY).
Recently, we integrated a state-of-the-art detect, so called superconducting transition-edge-sensor (TES) into the RSXS setup. It allows us to perform the resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS)/x-ray emission spectroscopy (XES) under the moderate energy resolution, 1.5 eV (FWHM) at 500 eV.
The RSXS end-station operates at UHV (<10-9 Torr) and is equipped with a limited-angle 4-circle goniometer and a 3-axis sample positioner with temperature control from 24 K to ~320 K. Also, there are a few detectors include Schottky barrier photodiodes with the fixed pin-hole slits, a high quantum efficiency Channeltron, and a 2D-CCD detector that can be translated vertically and covers a wide area. The angular range of the detector can cover angles up to ~176° depending on the detector.
