Biology Chemistry & Material Science Laboratory 2
The Biology Chemistry & Material Science Laboratory 2 (BCM2) at SSRL is dedicated to researcher experiments, including x-ray absorption and emission spectroscopies, macromolecular crystallography, x-ray scattering, and x-ray imaging.
The labs are maintained for final-stage sample preparation and other relatively straight-forward laboratory manipulations. These include buffer preparations, solid sample grinding, solution concentration, filtration, and centrifugation, and simple dissolution of solids. The user labs are presently not configured for chemical transformations.
This lab contains specilaty equipment for cold work, ultra low temperature storage, centrifuge applications, and inert atmosphere applicaitons. This lab includes a nitrogen glove box equipped with an oxygen meter. A typical internal dioxygen level is 0.3 ppm; a typical internal moisture reading is less than 1ppm. A Schlenk line is available for work with other specialty gases. Specialty equipment may require additional training. User lab bench spaces can be temporarily assigned to individual research groups.
BCM2 is located in B131 room 209 on the second floor mezzanine above beam lines 5 and 6. It is convenient to beam line clusters 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13 and 14. Learn more about resources available in the BCM2 lab on our chemical information and equipment information pages.
