RED AND ALL RED (Thompson, 1757, "Retreads - vol 5) Barnes 2, 138 three-couple longways, 2/4, G, 98 bpm A1: All set forward R&L to partner and turn single back to place. Two-hand turn halfway, ending close, and fall back. All are improper. A2: 1s set, then taking inside hands, set to W2, who acknowledges, and they circle L with her. Couple 1 face M2. B1: 1-2: 1s set to M2, who acknowledges. 3-6: They circle L with him. 7-10: M1, keeping hand with partner, draws her behind the men and leaves her standing there. He carries on c/w round the set and stands behind the women. On bar 10, M2&M3 and W2&W3 turn toward each other to face out and join hands with their nearby 1 in circles of three. 11-14: Circles of three go round once, then break where the 2s joined the 3s to form a circle of six. B2: 1-6: Circle six to the left once round (twelve steps) 7-10: 1s in middle let go. Top and bottom couples continue c/w round the outside of the set to change places, with M2 at the top and W3 at the bottom, drawing by their partners. 11-14: All two-hand-turn partners. (Progressed: 3-1-2) Bruce's notes * The 1s tend to forget to set to each other at the start of A2 * It's hard to find your way thorugh the B music. There's a descending scale down to the start of bar 7 which is pretty recognizable In B1 it marks the end of the circle. In B2 it marks the moment when the 1s stop and the other's keep moving. * In B1:8 note that W1 stops BEHIND the set line. * In B1 the first man has only two bars (9&10) to get halfway around the set. He can't linger with his partner when he drops her off, and even then has to be light on his feet. Fortunately he gets to keep moving into the circle on bar 11.
