The Merry, Merry Milkmaids
4 couple longways

Lead up a double and back; set and turn single. Repeat.

1st and 3rd couples balance back, meet, take both hands and slip through 2nd or
4th couples who slip up; all fall back and come forward a double; R hands
across in fours. Repeat, 2nd and 4th couples leading.

Side; set and turn single. Repeat.

Men cast to invert men's line; then women cast similarly; set and turn single.
Repeat, casting back up to places.

Arm R; set and turn single. Arm L; set and turn single.

Men fall back and come forward; men's hey. Women fall back and come forward;
women's hey.

Here's the way I do it.

First figure:
A1:	Up a double and back.  Set and turn single.  A2:   Same.

B1:	(12 bars): Ones and threes meet partner, acknowledge; give two 
hands, slip down while others slip up (to change places).  In fours, 
right-hand star.  Left-hand star.

B2:	All that again with twos and fours leading.

Second figure:
A1:	Side right.  Set and turn single.  A2:   Same left.

B1:	Men face up, cast to invert set.  Ladies same.All set and turn 
single.

B2:	The same but facing down and casting up.

Third figure:
A1:	Arm right.  Set and turn single.  A2:   Same left.

B1:	Men take hands in lines and fall back a double; lead forward.  
Middles face the ends: straight hey.

B2:	Ladies the same.

Sharp's version uses Sharp siding whereas I use Playford siding.

I specify meet, acknowledge and then slip in the first figure, and try 
to make people do three separate movements rather than just lurch into 
it (though I often can't convince them).

Sharp borrows the lines falling back and coming forward from the third 
figure to pad out the first figure, whereas I take "take hands across 
and go round" to mean right-hand star followed by left-hand star.

One of my favourite Playford dances.  It has a good tune, it's not 
that complicated, and I like the contrast between walking the 
introductions and dancing the figures.
