Bob, Lise --

Jody called "Joy After Sorrow" last night and we discovered some significant
interpretation differences in the "B" part, which I thought I'd warn you about
before (a) The playford workshop Bob is calling Sunday or (b) the rehearsal 
on the 24th where Lise is calling this dance.  [Bob, Stan played the _perfect_ 
tempo on Wednesday, so if he can remember where that was, that's what I want.]

This note spells out in more detail what's in the ball booklet and the packet
I sent out.  It explicitly contradicts Keller & Shimer in measures 1-2; they're
ambiguous about timing in 3-6.

So here's what I want:

B1
      1     1st man and 2nd woman meet; at the end of the first measure 
            they're about halfway between first and second place, facing
            up, holding inside hands.

      2     Those two lead up _above 1st place_  

    3-4     They turn 1/2, man backing round while woman goes forward, end
            facing down. (As in "Come Let's Be Merry")

    5-6     They lead down to 2nd place improper, 
            2nd man moving up to 1st place.

    7-8     They turn single down in 2nd place 


The rest of the B has some ambiguity, so here's some clarification.


    9-12    Same couple half figure eight up, finishing proper


   13-16    Same couple two hand turn, once round --
            FINISH THE TURN AT HOME, NOT HOLDING HANDS 
            (There's a real tendency to do a Jacob-Hall's-Jig style opening
            up of the two hand turn to a three-hand turn; if you do that, 
            the three hand turn will finish very early, and it makes the one
            figure cross the phrase, which isn't good either.  Make this turn 
            and the next one two distinct figures.)

B2 
    1-8     First lady joins in for a three hand turn, 1 2/3ds around.
            (It's very slow.  Make it _big_.  You can use ankle and knee to 
            get a lot of lift in it, but the feet have to keep moving forward.
            DO NOT do a Miss-de-Jersey's-style collapse and expand at the end;
            just drift forward into final places (which results in the 2nd
            woman dropping off early to end in 1st place;  it's okay with me
            if the 1s continue to hold inside hands until they've launched 
            into the cross up.)

   9-10     1s cross up above the 2s, stopping on the line to face each
            other.

  11-12     honors

  13-16     1s cast to third place, 3s moving up.


I hope this makes things clearer, not murkier.
