Schottische Variations (From "Step Lively 2" by Marian Rose) A part is always: progress CCW with 1-2-3 hop. Two-dancer variations: 1) Take ballroom position; step-hop around. 2) Individually step-hop around in a circle, man left, woman right. 3) One partner step-hops in place; the other twirls around once or twice under joined hands. 4) One partner drops down to one knee; the other step-hops in a circle around the first one. 5) Bells: on the first hop, kick the free-leg backward. On the second, kick it forward. Repeat. Make sure you have lots of room, front and back! 6) Instead of step-hops, plant both your feet. Both partners hit own knees twice, clap hands twice, bump hips twice slowly. (Knee, knee, clap-clap, bump-and-bump.) Three dancers: 1) Middle person step-hops in place with both hands raised; end dancers twirl on the spot. 2) Lift all joined hands to make two arches; right hand person step-hops to the left under the arch, around the middle, back to place. Next time the left-hand person goes under the right-hand arch. Each time the middle person turns under own arm. Four dancers: 1) The Four Horseman Schottische. (Two couples, one behind the other, holding inside hands with their partner, and outside hands with the same-sex person ahead of / behind them.) On the step-hops, the front pair lets go partner's hand and turns outward to rejoin hands behind other couple, who continue moving forward. A zillion dancers: 1) The bunny hop, which uses the whole music. A: Kick the right foot out to the right twice, while hopping on the left. Same with left foot. B: Hop forward on both feet (2 beats) Hop backward on both feet (2 beats) Three quick hps forward (3 beats) ("right foot right foot left foot left foot forward and back and hop-hop-hop")
