EARLY CALIFORNIA MAZURKAS "Dances of Early California Days" Closed couple positions SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO MAZURKA First foot M=L, W=R "Lennox Waltz in Mazurka Time" Follows mazurka rhythm, doesn't use traditional mazurka step. 1: Starting on first foot, step sideward (1), close (and), sideward (2), close (3). 2: Repeat 3: Repeat. 4: A little balance step. Step sideways (1), close (and), lift first foot heel off the floor (2), heel sinks and takes weight (3). 5-8: As 1-4, starting on other foot. 9-12: Take four waltz steps turning right, progressing CCW. 13-16: Take four waltz steps left, progressing CCW. ------------------------------------------------------------------ SANTA BARBARA MAZURKA "Wanda Polka Mazurka" 1: Step sideward on first foot (1), close (and), sideward (2), close (3) 2: step sideward first foot (1), steps slightly forward on second foot in front of first, sideward on first foot. That gives you a partial turn to the the right. 3-4: As above on second foot. 5-14: Repeat this two-measure pattern five more times, moving freely over the floor, alternating moving sideward left and right. A new direction is always taken on the first step of the two-measure pattern. 15-16: Twirl in place for five steps (starting second foot) and hold on 6 to free first foot. --------------------------------------------------------------------
