I love Walpole Cottage.  I love the tune and the dance.  I wouldn't 
consider it easy...

And, I made up a subset of it to make it fit a 32-bar tune.  Here it is, 
copied from my book, /The Contrarian/, with the notes in the book:

Wallpole Doll House
Sicilian Circle - Three Face Three

A1    Lines of three Forward and Back; End four Star Right

A2    Middle People turn Contra Corners, end back home in lines of three

B1    Circle six half way around; Lines of three go Forward and Back

B2    Pull partners into Basket Swing (of three people), end facing 
original direction

I made up this variation of Pat Shaw's wonderful dance, Wallpole 
Cottage, years ago.  I was surprised to find it not included in any of 
my earlier compilations.  At any rate, this is my attempt to edit the 
original to 32-bar length.

Lately I've been tempted to turn the "End four Star Right" into an "All 
Six Star Right."  I don't know if the timing would get off or if it 
would matter.

I find in teaching that saying, "end facing a new threesome," often is 
clearer to dancers than, "end facing original direction."

More comments: although there is a "right way" to turn contra corners, 
this dance can enjoy a bit of chaos as people just look for anyone to do 
the left hand turns.  As long as they get to the basket swing, it 
works.  Thus it can be used as a way to teach contra corners...

I also find the words "take the shortcut home" helpful to remind the 
active pair not to do another hand turn at the end of contra corners.
