VASSALBORO REEL Formation: Becket (Single progression; goes left) Bill Olson, April 1994 Bill likes old-timey tunes for this. A1: All Forward and back in long lines (8) Forward again, Women back out while Men allemand R to face partner (8) A2: Partners pass L sh to start 1/2 hey for four (8) Ladies 1/2 chain back (8) B1: ON LEFT DIAGONAL, Ladies 1/2 chain (4) 1/2 Promenade across, keeping left hands joined women turn to face in men stay facing out, join hands in long waves (8) B2: Balance the wave twice (8) Partners swing partner (on right)(8) Bill Olson sez: As in many Becket formation dances there are some "end effects" though they are not that severe in this dance. Diagonal chain only if there is a couple there to chain to. Neutral couple participates in chain, then squares off at end of set to await balance and partner swing. This dance started as an attempt to take Ted Sannella's "Ted's Mixer" and turn it into a non-mixing contra. It was written April 1994 and the middle sequence honestly came to me in a dream the night before NEFFA that year. I called it the next day without trying it first. Ted said (after the fact) that was not an advisable thing to do but the dance worked great and hey - it came to me in a dream! I like old timey tunes for this one.
