since I call at Open Country Hannover a mix of Contra and Square Dancing, maybe I can add some advice.

Don't use the word "Allemande". Say "Left Hand Turn" or "Right Hand Turn".

Remind them early that in Contra Dance "Partner" is a person and not a position.

Music: For me, the New England Chestnuts are still the best buy you can get.

If you want to introduce the Rory O'More figure, you may try

ROARING MIXER
Formation: Couples promenading, hands across

Promenade; Backtrack without releasing hands
Promenade back; face Partner
Back away; stomp-stomp-stomp, clap-clap-clap
Dosado 1 & 1/4 to an Alamo Ring
Balance right, left, slide (or spin) right. Give left hand to partner.
Balance left, right, slide (or spin) left
Turn partner by the right once and a half	*
Turn the next by the left into a promenade

* If people are a bit slow, I let them turn only once. This reverses the progression. Your choice.

I use Silver and Gold Two-Step, on the CD "When the Work 's All Done", produced by Bob Dalsemer.
