Mark, what is your source for "Armstrong (1973)"? Don
Armstrong often published dances under his own name that
were very similar to other composers' dances (e.g. compare
Yucca Jig to Ted Sannella's Yankee Reel); he may have been
unaware of the other dances, or he may have deliberately
altered a move or two to suit his own ideas of good
choreography or to simplify a dance. But AFAIK he always
gave such a dance a new title.

At one point in the mid-1950s, Armstrong visited New
England and collected material from the callers there. Soon
afterward, he published and recorded a number of dances
originally written by New Englanders; some appeared under
Don's name, some (IIRC) with no author credited, a few with
proper credit given. But I never heard of his taking (or
being given) credit for any version of Jefferson.

Here are the versions I'm aware of:

JEFFERSON AND LIBERTY (presumably from the early 1800s)
A.1 Circle left / circle right
A.2 Star right / star left
B.1 First couple down center, return & cast off
B.2 Right & left four

JEFFERSON'S REEL (Dudley Briggs, 1954)
A.1 Circle left / circle right
A.2 Right & left four
B.1 First couple down outside & return
B.2 Down four in line, arch & under, return

The version everyone uses now, under either title:
A.1 Circle left / circle right
A.2 Star right / star left
B.1 First couple down outside & return
B.2 Down four in line, arch & under, return
