Here's that dance that I call..

 

CHAINING FRENZY

a Beckett by Ron Nelson

 

A1 - On the left diagonal, ladies chain

       Directly across, ladies chain

 

A2 - On the right diagonal, ladies chain

       Directly across, ladies chain

 

B1 - On the left diagonal, right & left thru
       Directly across, right & left thru

 

B2 - Circle left

       Circle right

 

Caution the dancers at the end of the line not to participate in the ladies chain. In other words, if you are able to chain on the left diagonal, but not the right, then stay out of the chaining. Wait and do the right & left thru. Participating in one chain and not the other will result in a loss of partner, which is okay (I guess) if you are planning a mixer.

 

My experience has been the dancers either love this dance, or they hate it. There does not seem to be any in between opinions.

Hi,

I'm messing around with doing a contra evening
themed around gents and ladies chains. While I
think I've got plenty of dances that use them in
odd ways, I'm very interested in thoughts about
the following:

Style/teaching points about ladies chains. 
(Or gents chains.)
(Including but not limited to the courtesy turn/
twirling aspect.)

Dances or movement combinations that work much
better with a courtesy turn than a twirl.

Dances or movement combinations that work much
better with a twirl than a courtesy turn.

Dances or movement combinations that work much
better with an open ladies chain (allemande left
instead of courtesy turn) than either a courtesy
turn or a twirl.

Any advice greatly appreciated,
