Aha! This perhaps bring a bit of understanding to "Riptide."

I recall, when I first danced this dance, Drew Tronvig said old square 
dances spoke of it with reverence. Then I met an old square dancer who 
told me "we used to dance dances like Riptide." I figured Drew was right...

And, cool as it is, for those of us who dance on the phrase, it seems to 
have a few "wait for the balance" move (risking copyright):

Heads Star Right Half Way
Look for your corner with an Allemande Left
