LA POULE SQUARE (trad-dance-callers: Deborah Hyland) old-timey, play until done. 4-couple square All 8 join hands & go into center & come back out. In again, and head gents take 2 ladies and back out (2 lines of 3 at the heads, 2 lone gents). Head gent: Turn the right hand lady by the right hand round; Turn the left hand lady by the left hand round. Do si do the lady on the right. Same 3 do a basket swing. Same 3 circle left (there's a nice sort of feeling of free falling as you let go of the basket swing & make a circle). Heads make an arch & pop the side lady home to her partner. Everyone swing. Promenade. Repeat for side gents/then head ladies/and side ladies. NOTES It's a fun square both to call & dance and pretty good for beginners, because it's very forgiving. It doesn't really matter who you turn w/ the right hand or the left hand and there's lots of laughter as people figure out who to turn first.
