Below are the instructions for the Horses Branle version as I don't think this has been published, and it's good as something slightly out of the ordinary.

Another wonderful dance I have danced, but have never had the courage to call because it is a singing call is Northern Lights.
I'd be interested to hear if others call this one?  When using a mike, how do you manage to hear adequately if you are singing in tune with the band?

2) Horses Branle as adapted by Alan Hockney (5 people holding hands  - make a circle, and then break the circle at one point to leave a horseshoe-shaped set)
Music - own tune if the band know it or 48 bar polkas 

A1 & A2  All moving as if circling left, but with the following stepping - step onto left foot, then cross right foot behind left, and move 
              weight onto this foot, then another step to the left with left foot, then all jump into the air and land with both feet together (4 beats) repeat for all of A1 & A2.
   
B1 & B2. Number the dancers with no 1 being the left hand dancer, 2 his neighbour and so on. All dancers drop hands at this point.
              Dancer No 1 has 8 steps to do several turn singles (optional for those prone to giddyness) moving from the left hand end of the horseshoe to the right hand end.
              then
              Dancer No 2 has 8 steps to do the same.
              Dancer No 3 has 8 steps to do the same
              Dancer No 4 has 8 steps to do the same. This leaves original dancer no. 5 on the left hand end of the horseshoe, (and feeling deprived for not having had a turn) 

C1 & C2  Dancer no5 gets a 'solo' in which to weave in and out of the dancers in his own set, another set or wherever he/she fancies with whatever footwork they choose, whilst
              the other dancers clap and encourge them on.  At the end of this part of the dance, dancer No 5 must finish where he/she started, on the left hand end and he/she then becomes
              dancer no 1 for the next time through the dance.
