PALO ALTO SQUARE (or, ARCATA PLAZA, or even EUREKA) Alan Winston, 7 May 1999 40-bar waltz mixer 4 couples in a square. 1-16: Facing counterclockwise, each couple does 2 measures open waltz, 2 measures closed waltz, to travel one place. Repeat three more times until home. 17-24: Heads and their right-hand side couple do an open ladies chain over and back and a little bit more in order to 25-32: repeat with left-hand side couple, and a little bit more to start: 33: Head ladies into the center, right hands out 34: Side ladies the same, forming right hand star 35-36: Turn the star half way WHILE men cast left 1 place 37-38: meet new partner: taking woman's left hand in man's right, balance forward and back, then 39-40: Turn lady under to place; end facing ccw to start open waltz. [This could be AABBA with 8-bar phrases, or something different. 1-16 need to be choppy, like Rafe's Waltz or a hambo/mazurka, to emphasize the open waltz; 17-32 need to be very flowy with longer phrases; 33-40 need to be choppy again.]
