LCLS

The graphics shows, in bright colors, an artists view of the proposed LCLS Facility overlayed over the existing B-Factory complex (in faint tones.) The B-Factory is using the first 2 kilometers of the SLAC linac to accelerator electron bunches and to produce/accelerator positron bunches. These bunches are transported through the third kilometer of the linac tunnel to be injected into the two B-Factory storage rings. The proposal of the LCLS collaboration is to add a high brightness electron gun and two bunch compressor systems to the existing last kilometer of the linac to produce ultra-short electron bunches at 15 GeV. A 121-m long undulator is to be installed in the existing FFTB tunnel. The x-ray pulses from the undulator will be analyzed and used for research in the Photon Beamlines located in two experimental halls, the Near Hall ("A") in the SLAC research yard, and the Far Hall ("B").
