Petahertz optoelectronics via sub-cycle photo-excitation in solids

Wednesday, June 23, 2021 - 10:00am

Speaker:  Dmitry Zimin, Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics / Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich

Program Description:

High-order non-linear excitation of charge carriers in solids and gasses can be employed as a time gate for pulse waveform sampling. The temporal confinement of the event provides an attosecond temporal resolution and a petahertz detection bandwidth.

The concept is applied to observe and control optical properties of solids directly in the time domain. The light-matter-light pump-probe configuration allows using a sample medium and the injection pulse, to control and manipulate the test pulse waveform at ultrafast timescales. The encoded information is stored and can be further read out by a pulse waveform measurement.
