Experimental Possibilities in Material Science enabled by FEL Sources

Wednesday, July 1, 2015 - 3:00pm

Speaker: Joerg Hallmann, XFEL

Program Description

Experimental stations like the XCS instrument at LCLS and the upcoming MID instrument at European XFEL are dedicated to use the coherent properties of FEL beams. Here, a wide range of materials from hard to soft condensed matter are in the experimental focus using techniques like X-ray Photon Correlation Spectroscopy (XPCS), X-ray Speckle Visibility Spectroscopy, or Coherent Diffractive Imaging.

In my talk, I will present the current progress of the MID instrument with its different components and expected parameters. In addition, the basics and challenges of the XPCS technique at FELs will be discussed based on previous experiments at the XCS instrument.
