Program Description
Serial femtosecond crystallography (SFX), using nano- to micrometer-sized crystals at x-ray free-electron lasers (XFELs), has opened the door to the structural characterization of challenging biological systems. The various types of liquid jets are the main workhorse for introducing nano- to micrometer-sized crystals to the beam. We have developed a new simple device to introduce small crystals to the XFEL beam. This device has been tested at SSRL's beamline 12-2 and LCLS's XPP instrument. This seminar will describe the instrument and its potential applications
