Program Description
We developed and employed time-resolved X-ray spectroscopy to investigate metal-ligand interactions via metal L- and K-edges and Ligand core-level transitions to obtain complementary views of structure, valence charge, and spin during the photochemistry of solvated metal-organic model systems. While synchrotron radiation has been the workhorse for most studies, clearly, femtosecond FEL sources are needed to resolve dynamics related to charge-transfer/spin flip, structural alterations, and solvation. The talk will highlight X-ray spectroscopic insight into such processes and future prospects.
