2011 National User Facility Organization Annual Meeting
June 27-29, 2011

Please join us on June 27-29 for the 2011 NUFO Annual Meeting which will be held at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory (SLAC) in Menlo Park, California. This year’s meeting is being hosted by the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL), the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS), and SLAC Particle Physics and Astrophysics (PPA). User Representatives, User Administrators, NUFO General Members and others interested in user facilities are invited to attend this meeting.

The theme of this year’s meeting is "NUFO Encourages Access & Awareness". Throughout the meeting, invited speakers and participants will be asked to consider issues related to access and awareness, which will discussed in depth during breakout sessions. The meeting begins at 1 pm on Monday afternoon with several topics focusing on outreach and access. Talks on Tuesday will include a NUFO year-in-review update, educating future scientists, encouraging diversity, how interaction with user facilities help universities and small business, technology transfer, working with industry, and how NUFO can help to facilitate these discussions.

Tours may be arranged on Wednesday morning if there is sufficient interest.

Additional breakout sessions will be arranged on Wednesday morning:

  • Practical tips for scientists and user representatives to communicate science to the general public (how to hone skills at delivering key messages about science and why it is important)
  • Benchmarking and best practices for user administrators.

We encourage the NUFO members to invite other individuals from their institutions who would be interested and/or benefit from this program (including user representatives, communications, outreach and education officers).

There is no registration fee to attend this meeting, but participants interested in the group dinner, which will be arranged on Monday, June 27th, will need to register and provide advance payment. We look forward to your participation in these discussions and activities!
