Overview
Beam line 9-3 is the side station on the BER-funded 16-pole 2T hybrid wiggler beam line 9 dedicated to general user biological XAS. It was fully
operated for general user access for the first time in the FY2000
run. BL9-3 provides high intensity over a broad X-ray energy range, and is
designed to provide focused beam with an energy range of 5 keV to 30 keV.
Beam line 9-3 is the only high-flux focused beam line at SSRL fully dedicated
to biological XAS.
In addition to providing general user beam time, it is also used
for the development of new experimental techniques and capabilities.
Single-crystal
XAS instrumentation has been developed to allow users to take
advantage of the excellent XAS capabilities of the beam line (30-element
detector etc.) with in-situ diffraction measurements to facilitate precise
alignment of crystal vectors to the e-vector of the beam. Capillary-based micro-XAS/imaging capabilities developed on BL 9-3
have moved to BL 10-2.
