Purchasing PCs and PC Components at SSRL

Procedure

Whether you intend to write a SLAC purchase requisition or use a SLAC purchase card, it is important to go through the proper SLAC channels in order to get timely service, automatic coverage on maintenance contracts, and the maximum discount available.

We strongly recommend that all PC orders be routed through the SSRL PC Support group. The group will advise you on the currently-supported "standard" PCs (that is, PC models for which on-site hardware maintenance agreements exist and which can be configured using standardized software packages).

The SSRL PC Support group will handle the purchasing of "standard" PCs. When the new PCs arrive, the group will also take care of the installation and maintenance of operating systems and standard applications.

The SSRL PC Support group will support "non-standard" PCs on a best effort basis but can not take care of purchasing and software issues for these machines.

To start the purchasing process, email the PC support group with a description of your needs.

Before ordering software, check our web page of supported and site-licensed software at SSRL.

For installation and configuration when your new PC, peripheral, or component has arrived, get in touch with the PC Support group without opening the box the item arrived in.
