Chi-Chang Kao
Associate Laboratory Director
We are pleased to announce that Professor Chi-Chang Kao has accepted SLAC's offer to become the next Director for the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource. Chi-Chang has been the NSLS Chairperson since 2006, and the Director for the BNL Joint Photon Sciences Institute since 2008. He brings extensive scientific and management background to SSRL and SLAC. His own research is focused in the area of condensed matter physics and materials science, where he has developed and applied techniques based on ultra-bright x-ray synchrotron radiation, such as magnetic scattering and high-resolution inelastic x-ray scattering, to study a wide range of problems in condensed matter, especially focusing on correlated materials and materials in extreme environments. Chi-Chang will arrive at SSRL in the second part of August.
